Chestnut Medical Technologies was founded to pioneer new minimally invasive therapies for Interventional Neuroradiology. Chestnut's mission is to develop technologies that are easier to use while improving outcomes and reducing complications in the treatment of neurovascular disease.

Chestnut's first product is the Alligator Retrieval Device (ARD), an intracranial coil/stent foreign body retrieval system, the Alligator Retrieval Device, was cleared by the FDA in March 2005.

Chestnut Medical Technologies has also developed the Pipeline NED, a braided bimetallic stent for exclusion of cerebral aneurysms through flow disruption.

The Pipeline NED received European CE Mark approval in 2009 as a stand alone device for excluding cerebral aneurysms from circulation and Chestnut Medical Technologies was acquired by ev3 in June 2009 for a total provision of $150 million in cash, shares and milestone provisions.
