Cook Medical, a privately held company, designs, manufacturers and distributes a range of minimally invasive medical devices including stents, grafts, catheters, guide wires and embolization coils.

The Flipper detachable coils embolization system is Cook’s main product for cerebral aneurysm treatment together with the Bentson and Newton cerebral guidewires. The system consists of a 35mm guidewire with detachable coils that come in several lengths and is used for both peripheral and cerebral embolization purposes.

Cook’s Flipper system was granted FDA safety approval in 2000, however, the product is currently not being actively marketed in the US and has minimal market share in Europe.

More recently, Cook Medical has launched a battery of new embolization coils including the Nester, the MicroNester platinum embolization coil as well as an array of access and delivery devices. Products are still to make an impact on the neurovascular space.
